I was stupid

Last month I had sex with a prostitute. I was the first (and last) time I have ever done this. I had hit a very low point with depression and while on a recent business trip I had met her. At first I did not know she was a prostitute, after we met and were talking for a while we went back to my room where I learned her true identity. At that point I didn't care. It was as if my mind and body were separated and my body was in control. Before we began she went to the bathroom wher I observed her wash her vaginal area with a face cloth with soap and water. We went back to the bed where she put a condom on me then she got on top of me. Two minutes into it I paniced finally realizing what I was doing. and ended it. We talked for a bit, she cleanded herself again, I cleaned myself and she left. I am so stressed over this whole incident. I am panicing that I may have caught something. There has been no fever or anything yet but the stress is tearing me apart. What are my chances of getting HIV or other STD.

Rob, Your chances are very slight. Of course, if the prostitute was negative for HIV is would be impossible. As it was she seemed to be very careful; another good omen. You used a condum and had sex only for a few minutes and cleans afterwards. These are other things that further raise the liklihood that you'll be fine. Of course, having sex with strangers is a higher risk endeavor.
You will probably worry no matter what you are told. At some point you will wish to have sex with another person. You might simply want to go get tested. Call and find out where you can get tested and ask about the time window that you will want to wait. If you were exposed it would take you time to build up antibodies. There is no point in getting tested until then.
If you check around you may find that someone will quote you odds of contracting HIV. I would imagine that it is very slight. I personally would go get tested simply for my own peace of mind and that of future sexual partners.
Take care,
Willy
