Looking for some strong advise. Unportected sex with a co-woker, non drug user on 2 occations. I strated to worry a few week later and got tested 17 days after, neg results with a blood draw. my agsiety grew very strong and continued testing 46 days after with a blood draw, neg. 52 days with the oralsure, neg and 60 days with the rapid test. all neg. the other partner wont test and feels insulted about me asking. Some organizations say with 4 conclusive tests I should not test anymore and move along. and some say up to 6 months. anyone with some good advise who is knowedgable in this field please respond. I am losing touch with reality a becoming very serious to my health and career.

Hello there,
I'm feeling the same u do...I'm getting paranoid about the whole HIV thing. I got tested after 3 weeks of having sex with a man and came negative. although protected, my anxiety grew and made me really stress about it. I guess it makes it fair to tell u that you're not the only one feeling the anxiety. I'm going through it too. I'm scared because one of my lymph node is sore. I'm only 22 years old. I want u to be strong...my question is do u have any symptoms? it's true it can take up to 6 months to detect HIV. Good luck to both of us..this can be a life changing for both of us...I'm praying for the both of us. take care....

Guys. Relax. YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV
You tested negative - THE TEST IS DEFINITIVE!
Odds of transmission between an infected person and a negative person (unprotected) are 1 in 1000. Using protection 1 in 10,000
I've run the numbers a million times. You are both fine

after 60 days of testing, the result was neg. Probably you are not infected with virus. The basic testing of looking for anti body can dectect the virus in your body up to 2 weeks. So the chance you catch the virus is very slim. be strong and enjoy your healthier life boy.

Hey I just wanted you to know my story. I am in a commited relationship for the past 2 years. I work in a pretty shady area and was sexually attacked mid November of 2004 I took a home test 4 weeks later and came back negative. I then took a 20 min rapid blood test at 2 months and a few days after possible exposure and also came back negative, I then decided to take a final test which was a rapid saliva test and it had been 6 months and a week and thankgod I came back negative again. My doctor said I have nothing to worry about that the window period is now usually 3 months because of the newer more sensitive tests that are available. The point of my story is after my attack 3 days later i ran a fever for 2 days (this could have been do to the weather) then in mid december I was sick for about 2 weeks I had severe head ache and a sore throat and an extremley runny nose but no fever, (Every one in my house had been sick during this time and they all seemed to feel the same thing) I felt like it was a sinus infection, which I have never had before. Anyway my point is I drove myself absolutley mad. I truly believed I was dying and I was infected with HIV. I became depressed and gained weight because I did not care anymore. I now relize after speaking to friends and proffesionals that I have a psychological problem and I still sometimes believe I have HIV, even though doctors said that 3 negatives within 6 months is more than sufficiant. The bottom line do not base a diagnosis upon possible symptoms. Half the symptoms for HIV relate to many other things. Do your self a favor go for another test at 6 months this should put you at total ease. Goodluck and please be safe

Hey Melissa, I can relate to your story. I was just with a questionable person 3 days ago and just yesterday I developed a slight fever and headache. I've read that the initial symptoms are flu like, but I haven't seen how long after being infected. Needless to say i'm sorta freakin out right now. Going for a test in 4 days, so hopefully everything works out okay.

I just posted these for another member today, but you could read them too.

It's not likely that you could have detectable antibodies yet to be detected by testing. Depending upon the type of sex you had the odds may be very slight that you contracted HIV. I'm also not sure that you could get the classic symptoms in a matter of days. These can manifest quickly through worry. For peace of mind you may want to be tested, but you will probably have to wait several more weeks.
best,
Willy
