CMV treatment

::)If you are being treated for CMV with Gancyclovir (Cytovene) please know about, and consider inquiring if you are eligible to take, a new treatment called "VALCYCLOVIR". The primary advantage is that the new treatment does is 2pills, once a day; whereas the prior dose for my partner was 2pills, three times a day. With lesser pills, long-term adherence may improve. Though the drug lists side-affects, none were observed by him... his adjustment to the new med was free of any adverse affects. Also, this new treatment is on each of the NYS formularies for MEDICAID and ADAP. Not everyone's system is the same, however, so talk with your care provider to see if it's even something for you to consider at this time, or if you should stick with GANCYCLOVIR for now--- which, I might add, seems to be a wonderful drug on its own accord and certainly did my partner well for the two years he was taking it to prevent any reoccurrence of CMV for him.
