Well my sons father has just been officially diagnosed with HIV with his second positive test, I am just at a loss as to how to help him, we are no longer in a romantic relationship but have remained friends for our son, I think I am in shock.

Cytome:  I'm sorry that you have gotten this news, but once one has knowledge of the HIV status, one can take actions to prevent it's spread to others and to take measures that will greatly decrease the likelihood of the disease progressing to AIDS.  Even now there are people that have not made that progression after 20 years.  The disease is far better understood and treatments hold even greater promise.

Of course, this disease ends up affecting more than just the person that contracts it.  I hope that your sons father becomes proactive in educating himself about HIV.  You can also learn alot and possibly share information with your son and his dad.  It is a tough thing to find out, but there is a lot of information, support, and help for you all now.

Best wishes,
Willy
